Kathryn Kennedy Vineyard & Winery

Kathryn Kennedy Winery sits in the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, where eight acres of Cabernet Sauvignon were planted on their own roots by Kathryn herself in 1973. From the beginning, the vineyard was hand-tended and the wines carefully made in small lots—a practice that continues to this day. Certified organic since 2007, the estate remains a model of thoughtful farming and classic winemaking.

Kathryn was a trailblazer—one of the first women in California to establish a winery under her own name—and her age-worthy, silver-labeled Estate Cabernet became a benchmark for the region. Her son, Marty Mathis, took over as winemaker in the 1980s and continues to farm and craft wines from this singular site, championing the often-overlooked Santa Cruz Mountains with quiet persistence and deep care.  Check out our stellar library offering!
